THE DIRECT PERFORMANCE GAMES
On June 29th, 2024 Direct Performance Physical Therapy will be hosting a Crossfit-style competitive fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis.

Direct Performance Games is an annual charity CrossFit competition to benefit local cystic fibrosis (CF) patients in Hampton Roads. All proceeds go to Fight CF Foundation, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which funds critical research and drug development to improve life-sustaining medications on the path to a cure. Fight CF also provides direct assistance to qualifying Hampton Roads CF patients and their families through programs available at our two local CF Care Centers at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and Naval Medical center, Portsmouth.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Direct Performance Games is a one day CrossFit style event for all fitness levels. There will be four morning events with start times of 7:30 AM, 8:15 AM, 9:00 AM and 9:45 AM. Three-person teams can register for their preferred start time. The four morning events will include four heats. Participants can sign up to compete in three divisions: RX, Scaled, or Scaled Non-Competitive. The goal is for all participants to have fun and get a good workout at their fitness level!
NEW - COMPETITOR RX
The final two events this year are for three person teams who are looking to stand atop the podium at the end of the games. Starting time for the Competitor RX events are 10:30 AM and 11:15 AM. Each event includes four workouts. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third-place teams.
In addition to the competition and great workout, Direct Performance Games will feature a workout for all the DPG kids, a food truck on-site, cold bevs for kids and adults, competition scoring, DJ, premier raffle, and local vendors. All team participants will get a welcome bag, an event t-shirt, and two drinks on the house. Spectator tickets are available as well.

LET'S DEFEAT CYSTIC FIBROSIS
​ABOUT THE CAUSE
In 2016, Erin and I were blessed with our first baby girl. Delivery was as easy as any delivery can be (Father’s perspective...so not easy, not easy at all). Our baby girl was healthy and crying with open lungs so we all spent the day and night with full hearts around family. The next day we were hoping to go home and waiting for a tiny detail not many people really think about when having a baby, the first poop. Layla had not pooped yet so we weren't allowed to go home. Fast forward several hours when Layla spit up green bile, a sign she was backed up and not processing things through her body. Fast forward another couple days and Layla was in the NICU preparing to have open abdominal surgery to physically remove the blockage. We were given many diagnoses as to why this was happening but after genetic testing we were sat down for a quick but detailed explanation of Cystic Fibrosis.
We were told that Layla would have to take medication for the rest of her life to help her digest food, medication to help her lungs function properly, and she would have to use a vibrating vest for 20 minutes twice a day, every day to keep her lungs in top condition.
That was a really tough day, but now Layla is 8 years old and participates in swimming, gymnastics, CrossFit, soccer, and loves to be active. Most people (including her parents) would never know she has CF. Layla is tough, resilient, and mature.
