Dr. Kirsten Burwell, DPT, OMTC, CMTPT earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree with highest honors from Emory University in 2012. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia graduating in 2009 with her B.S. in Education with high honors, majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Spanish. Kirsten has advanced certifications in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (OMTC) through the Medical University of South Carolina, therapeutic dry needling (CMTPT) through Myopain Seminars, and postpartum and pregnancy exercise. She also received additional training in vestibular rehabilitation.
Kirsten is always working to improve her clinical skills, taking many continuing education courses. She has focused on courses to improve her manual therapy skills, including joint and soft tissue mobilization as well as dry needling techniques, and treatment of orthopedic and sports injuries.
Kirsten loves anything involving the outdoors. She grew up a swimmer, but since college has focused on running, completing distances ranging from 5K to marathon. She also enjoys yoga, biking and hiking and has completed triathlons, up to the half-ironman distance. She has always been passionate about working with runners of all levels, from beginners to seasoned athletes. As a mom of two young boys and a runner, she is passionate about treating pregnant and postpartum women in the best way possible to get them back to full participation in their activities, whether it be running, chasing kids, or high level lifting, without symptoms or pain.
